Don’t Get Trapped on the Tracks. 5 Tips to Keep You Safe!

{2:45 minutes to read} Recently there was a tragic train-car collision in New York.

On February 5, 2015, a tragedy occurred on the Metro-North train tracks in Valhalla, New York: a commuter train struck an SUV. It resulted in six deaths.

More recent train collisions show how frequent these dangerous accidents are:

  • On March 9, 2015, an Amtrak train headed to New York City slammed into a tractor-trailer stuck on the tracks in North Carolina. One of the train's cars toppled, and the conductor, along with at least 54 others were injured.
  • On February 24, 2015, in California, the engineer of a Southern commuter train was killed and 30 people were injured when the train struck an abandoned truck.

Every three hours a person or vehicle in the US is hit by a train. Keep these five tips in mind to avoid being hit by a train:

  1. Never drive around lowered gates.
  2. Expect a train to bear down on the tracks at any time.
  3. Trains are closer and moving faster than they appear.
  4. Never race a train to a crossing.
  5. If your vehicle stalls on or near the tracks, get out and run away from the tracks.

Our firm has experience representing passengers injured in train crashes. If you have any questions about your rights to recover compensation, after being injured in a train collision, call the Katter Law Firm at 212-809-4293. We’ll be happy to answer your questions.
